DIY Drain Cleaner

DIY Drain Cleaner

Things you'll need

One of my biggest pet peeves is a clogged drain. I can’t decide if it’s because the Lochness monster lives there, or the fact that I have to fix it and I forget like a cagillian times to do it. You know what I am talking about. You use the shower treading in 3″ of water and you are certain it will get fixed TODAY! No one wants the Lochness monster nibbling on their toes while they are showering……(or maybe you do), but not me! But like everything else in our lives five hundred things happen and on the next day what are you doing? Treading in 3″ of water… again.

Here is one of my favorite homemade DIY drain cleaners. It is safe for the environment and the dry ingredients can be premixed and kept under the sink. Super easy and super fun to hear it fiz….that means it’s working!

DIY drain cleaner Recipe:

1C baking soda

1C basic table salt

1/2c Vinegar

1/2 c lemon juice if you have it

Pour baking soda, salt and vinegar down the drain. Let sit for about 15 minutes. If you have it, pour lemon juice down about 5 minutes after the three main ingredients. Let sit and then pour 2C scolding hot water down the drain to complete.

Another DIY solution to fix that clogged drain is good ol’ vinegar. If you don’t have the other ingredients, vinegar will often do the trick on a small clog. Do you have a great DIY recipe? Share it with us, we’d love to hear from you!
